Pet Markets
by Moira Allen
Following is a list of some of the major pet markets that are
open to freelance contributions. This is by no means a
complete list, and information on editors, payment rates
etc. changes rapidly.
Bow-Tie Publications (formerly Fancy Publications)
Probably the largest publisher of pet magazines in the country, offering a variety of monthly, bimonthly and annual publications. Payment ranges from $150 to $400, sometimes higher with quality photos, depending on the publication. Payment is on publication, and authors have complained about recent contracts. The main address for all publications is:
P.O. Box 6050
Mission Viejo, CA 92690
Many (but not all) of these publications can be found on the Animal Network website: http://www.animalnetwork.com. As the editors of these publications change frequently, I am no longer attempting to keep up with who edits what. Check the masthead or the website, or call the company to find out who the current editor is for a particular magazine.

More Cat Publications:
This page at Fanciers.com lists a number of cat magazines, including an extensive list of breed-club publications. The page is outdated and many of the publications no longer exist, but it's a good place to start hunting down lesser known and non-US publications: http://fanciers.com/other-faqs/mag-list.html.
